Statement from Matt

Regarding the future of Alvechurch Matchdays

Hi all.

I’ve made the decision to completely step away from filming and producing match highlights at the end of this season (24/25). Initially the plan had been to pass on responsibility for filming to Joe, at least for the matches he is able to attend. I have since, however, decided it is best for me to cease altogether.

I will not go into the reasons behind decision, aside from the most important one; the strain on my mental health.

Watching the game through a camera is not really watching it at all. I can’t celebrate a goal. I can’t stand a chat with my fellow fans. I can’t do many of the things that made supporting Alvechurch FC so enjoyable. In fact, it’s become something of a chore.

The 24/25 season is Alvechurch Matchdays’ last with regards to producing match highlights, and I’ll be returning to my happier role of rabid fan, stats guru/nerd and gobshite come July. It is not the end, though; Alvechurch Matchdays will continue as a matchday blog of some description as well as an unofficial fans’ perspective on all things Alvechurch FC.

Obviously, I want to say a massive thank you to those who have been so appreciative of the content I’ve provided. I know it’s not perfect (read: riddled with mistakes) but, for the most part, I’ve tried my best. And knowing that, for many supporters who can’t make it to games, it’s something of a lifeline is what’s motivated me to do it.

Also a more personal thank you to:
>Gaz, for filming the alternative angle of our goals at home games;
>Joe, for providing the behind-the-goal footage of our goals home and away;
>Paul, for his help, support and photos;
>Ian, for photos and assistance with transport;
>T&W Accounts for their sponsorship over the past two seasons; and
>Steve Denny, for his support, assistance and putting up with my shit for so long.

Caio,
Matt
